The Spector family was relatively happy, having barbecues in the backyard and getting along well. It was revealed in this episode that Marc Spector once had a younger brother, and both lived with their parents. One of the main ways Moon Knight episode 5 explored Marc Spector was through his family. In order to balance their hearts, Marc and Steven went on a journey through each other's memories, providing an insight into both alters in a way Moon Knight hadn't offered thus far, through Marc's memories and Steven's origins. If not, their souls would be condemned to remain in the Duat. Should this happen, they would pass to the Field of Reeds and spend eternity in paradise. Tawaret, the goddess of childbirth and fertility, guided them towards the Field of Reeds, depending on whether their hearts became balanced. The main throughline of this episode was that Marc and Steven had been sent to the Duat, the Egyptian underworld, after being shot by Arthur Harrow in episode 4.

Episode 4 ended with Marc and Steven coming into contact with Tawaret, another Egyptian deity, with Moon Knight episode 5 following directly on from these events. Moon Knight episode 5 continued directly from Moon Knight episode 4's major twist and cliffhanger, seeing Marc and Steven exploring what seems to be a psych ward.
